Spiral Frog – Spiralling Down

20 January, 2009 (13:38) | Downloading, Free Legal Music, General, Information, Related | By: Ferdie

spiralIn what may be one of the most devastating blow to the music industry, Spiral Frog has spiraled its last straw and is set to close shop. The free music site has lost most of it’s revenue from ad’s, overcome by pressure from the many download sites paid or free. By the way, this is the reason why most of us still prefer to buy music online, we pay, we download the music and we do what ever the hell we do with it afterwards. Spiral Frog’s commitment to ad’s that helped pay its operating costs has run out of steam overcome by the financial crisis and lagging support.
The music industry has been suffering for quite sometime, victim to the utter failure of DRM and the move to control music from the masses. The site is faltering and missing step with the rest of the world who use iTunes for their music and other download sites that charge for the music you want. It may only be time when even the recording industry giants may fail, leaving the masses to dictate what they want when they want it straight from the artists themselves many of whom have already turned to new media and other forms of music sharing the globe has so embraced. gone will be the sites that offer free music (well, except maybe for the FTP sites) that allows access to many of our favorite music from all over the world.
